Competency Description This competency refers to the ability to understand the principles and recommended practices of corporate governance in the conduct of business. The scope includes observing the code on corporate governance to achieve business sustainability and long term shareholder value.

  • Identify the importance of practicing good corporate governance.
  • Recognise the recommended practices of corporate governance.
  • Define and outline the principles and requirements of good corporate governance.
  • Identify the elements of corporate governance in regulations and guidelines.
  • Identify the implications and expectations of the corporate governance code.
  • Identify the linkage between activities in own area and the corporate governance code implementation.
  • Interpret the operational requirements of the corporate governance code.
  • Perform roles and responsibilities consistent with the recommended practices of corporate governance.

Generic Description of Proficiency Level

The ICF has five (5) proficiency levels and the generic description of each level is as follows:

Proficiency Levels General Description
Level 1 – Awareness Able to do or demonstrates basic knowledge, skills and behaviors in key actions to meet required standards. Needs total supervision and guidance.
Level 2 – Knowledge Able to do or demonstrates sufficient knowledge, skills and behaviors in key actions consistently to meet required standards. Needs occasional supervision and guidance.
Level 3 – Skill Able to do or demonstrates advanced knowledge, skills and behaviors in key actions consistently to meet required standards and makes continuous improvements. Capable of doing the job independently and can lend support to others.
Level 4 – Mastery Able to do or demonstrates expert knowledge, skills and behaviors in key actions consistently to meet required standards. Is considered an authority in the field and able to train/coach others.
Level 5 – Expert Able to do or demonstrate expert knowledge, skills and behaviors in key actions consistently exceed required standards. Is considered an authority in the field and able to train/coach others. Reviews work of others for adequacy and improvement. Make suggestions for long-term improvement. Able to work independently
